One of these days, I swear, I will have accumulated enough research to write Marvel Bullpen slash. In the Mighty Marvel Manner. And it will be AWESOME.

Which is to say: I've been reading sixties Marvel again. In particular, I've been reading the late-seventies Pocket Book mass-market paperback reprints of early Hulk issues (volume 1, 1-6 of Hulk v1; volume 2, unspecified features from Tales to Astonish from sometime in the LBJ era).

Some of these Tales to Astonish features are illustrated by Gil Kane. That is to say, Gil "Sugar" Kane.

This made me o.O for a second, and then I picked up the pun and went on with my life. You can't spend *too* much time analyzing Stan Lee's eccentric methods of naming his collaborators, after all.

And then, in the *next* few features, Gil became "Sugar Lips".

Oh STAN.

Soon after, Marie Severin took over, and *she* was often credited (along with "Magnificent" and "Mirthful", this alongside "Smiling" Stan), as Marie "The She" (alongside Stan "the Man). A slight lack of parallel structure, there, but it did rhyme!

Also of note, in Marie Severin's first feature, was the credit "Hulkamorously inked by Frank Giacoia." Given that Stan referred to the magazine's readers frequently as "Hulkophiles" he probably didn't mean that *quite* the way it sounded.

Or maybe he did. YOU NEVER KNOW.
