I have a JLU Amanda Waller. She is amazing! And looks like AMANDA, which means she's a completely different mold from everyone else.

Also, she has a green ring, which does not seem to have a lantern on it, and is canon as [info - personal] greenygal discovered on Youtube the other night, but...it is distressing.

(...is it possible, by the way, that Task Force X is not on Youtube? I know I have the episode somewhere in my apartment, but I figured it would be easier to find there than here. *eyes apartment balefully.)

Now she just needs a Squad. (I have a Vixen. That's it for people who've ever been in the Suicide Squad, and it's the wrong continuity Vixen at that.) I may perhaps have bought-it-now a JLU Clock King and placed a bid on a Deadshot.

Sadly, or perhaps fortunately, the Suicide Squad members tend not to be the kind of folks who get action figures.

I am intensely annoyed at DC for not making me a figure of Captain Boomerang senior, especially since Owen has *two*, one of whom is basically Amanda-scale. It's just not the squad without Digger!

In other DC cartoon news, the latest Brave and the Bold episode was good times. Ollie got to be awesome innit! And there were both Catwoman and Huntress in the main plot--females, plural! And from the list of people I wasn't really expecting to see on TV: Woozy Winks. (Drooling over Catwoman. *sighs* I still kinda squee'd at Woozy riding Plastic Man, though.)

It continues to entertain me that Ollie and Guy only ever run into each other in circumstances where you do NOT get the expected fistfight, either because Ollie is Silver Age-y (here) or because Guy is, well, Silver Age-y (GL/GA). Or because Ollie is in the hospital. Or dead.

(Sad commentary on Ollie's funeral: Guy gave his eulogy. And said some of the nicer things that were said about him. Yeah.)

Speaking of Ollie, I didn't start watching Smallville for him, and I'm unlikely to start watching it now, but this picture of him and Hawkman (apparently they are bringing in the JSA now!) makes me deeply, deeply happy:

Ollie. Hawkman. Mace. Table. Crossbow. )

...and in much sadder news, my comic shop is going out of business. )

Yuletide!

Jan. 4th, 2009 11:24 am
So I got 15 Steps Forward for Yuletide, which is a wonderful post-"Snowbirds Don't Fly" [the Roy on heroin plotline] fic that does a better job than about anything I've ever seen of accounting for the aftermath of that. Mostly from Ollie's POV; he's *trying*, the poor clueless dear ♥. (Notable things about Caia, for those who didn't know me very well in my full-on GL/GA phase: I love Ollie even when he's being stupid. Sometimes especially.) Also Hal/Ollie, just to make it additionally dear to my heart. Written by [livejournal.com profile] perpet_fic, who I do not know but possibly should!

I myself wrote two fics for Yuletide. For my assignment, I wrote Two in Extremis for [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice, which is Carol 'n' Tony bodymerge action-adventure fic. Those of you who IM with me can remember my flip-out when the inevitable happened and, having unwisely offered "any" for Avengers/New Avengers, I got Carol Danvers and Tony Stark. I'm...mostly pleased with how it turned out, I guess, although I feel it could be better. Comics and comic fic aren't very good training for writing fight scenes--the latter because you don't *get* many, the former because it's all in pictures rather than words. It's an art I'd like to learn more of, though.

Thanks so much to anyone I was IMing in December for putting up for me, to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel and [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl for pressing [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice for details, and to [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel for last-minute beta.

And then there's the Yuletide treat I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel, Dinner With Bernie, which is just what it says on the tin: Bernie Rosenthal takes Steve Rogers [Captain America, in case anyone around here is still confused] out to dinner. I'm probably on the whole more pleased by how that one turned out, because it was less ambitious, even if I *did* write it on airplanes and in airports on Christmas eve and talk [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl into betaing late that evening. Bernie was fun to write!

Prompt: Bruce, Ollie, and a sock (of love!).

Ollie wasn't entirely sure what he was expecting to find in Batman's chest of drawers. )

Prompt: Connor Hawke, gen, please.

Connor lifted his bow, slowly, carefully. )
Title: In an Empty City
Fandom: Green Lantern/Green Arrow
Rating: ....let's call it "mature teens".
Summary: Ollie comes to visit Hal. There is banter. And such.
Disclaimer: Characters and settings belong to DC, no matter how badly they're taking care of them.
Spoilers/continuity: Deals with events in Green Lantern: Rebirth and Green Lantern v4 1-2. Specific references to Green Lantern: Rebirth 6 and Green Lantern v4 2. A few references to older GL and GA continuity.
Acknowledgment: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana, [livejournal.com profile] evadne_ and [livejournal.com profile] plainsong_x for many degrees of beta, encouragement, and advice.

Caia finally writes Hal/Ollie )

[livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown was kind enough to send me the first appearence of Green Arrow and Speedy.

Now, I'm generally only interested in the post-1969 Ollie, since he didn't have a personality in his first 28 years of existance. However, I'm amused to discover that the inherent phalicism that is Green Arrow has, apparently, *decreased* over the years.

The Green Arrow is shot from his cockpit )

Also, "Contact!"? Who do they think they are, TNT and Danny the Dyna-Mite?

In other news from times (not as far) past, according to Spectre v1 #3, Wildcat was operating in a place called Knickerbocker City. Clearly a DC locale we should see more of...
I was digging through old comics (for a school paper, believe it or not) and came across this, from the little historical background piece in the first issue of the 1983 Green Arrow mini:

"And now--Green Arrow is rich again! Can it be? Will Ollie Queen go back to the board rooms, reopen his mansion, maybe team up once more with Speedy?

Frankly, knowing the men behind this series as we do, we believe all this will happen the day Jonah Hex gets cosmetic Surgery [sic], Captain Carrot gets his teeth fixed, and the Haunted Tank is exorcised.

However GA's life may change, one direction it will never go is backward!" (Probably either Mike Barr, who wrote the mini, or Len Wein, who edited it. Italics in original)

Well, Captain Carrot's world was lost to the Crisis. Where are Jonah Hex and the Haunted Tank nowadays?
And I only *just* got the last JLU. :) Or, not quite; my dl finally finished Tuesday morning, I just haven't gotten around to commenting yet. It's been a busy week in rl, and when you combine that with my slow posting style, well.

Some comments on the first one: spoilers for JLU episode 1, but not tonight's ep, which I HAVE NOT SEEN, and PROBABLY WILL NOT SEE until TUESDAY; ref's to 'Secret Society' and 'Only a Dream' )
[livejournal.com profile] badficwriter, inspired by my fic The Revenge of Black Tie, has drawn Ollie and Dinah in each others' costumes:

Black Arrow
Green Canary
This is part one of the fic I was talking about the other day. It's still subject to revision, so read with some caution.

ETA: Edited July 27, 2004

The Revenge of Black Tie, 1/2
by Caia
July 5, 2004

Disclaimer: These people DO NOT BELONG TO ME. Except for Black Tie (and possibly some random police officers) they BELONG TO DC COMICS. Whew.

Summary: "I may be going to prison," said James Cravat, called the Black Tie by the costumed community, "But--" he flourished a ray gun--a tasteful black-and-silver ray gun, but unmistakably a ray gun--that he had pulled from some desk drawer during the preceding exchange, "everyone will know JUST HOW RIDICULOUS YOU TWO LOOK!!!"

Roll Call: Green Arrow, Black Canary, Superman, the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, Batman, and the Flash

Continuity note: no longer takes place in Earth-C, as I have been informed that that's the one with the funny cartoon animals, this, provisionally at least, takes place in Earth-1, that is, PRE-CRISIS, sometime around the early 100s of JLA v.1.

Rating: PG. Barely. This may improve in part 2.
