Yuletide!

Jan. 4th, 2009 11:24 am
So I got 15 Steps Forward for Yuletide, which is a wonderful post-"Snowbirds Don't Fly" [the Roy on heroin plotline] fic that does a better job than about anything I've ever seen of accounting for the aftermath of that. Mostly from Ollie's POV; he's *trying*, the poor clueless dear ♥. (Notable things about Caia, for those who didn't know me very well in my full-on GL/GA phase: I love Ollie even when he's being stupid. Sometimes especially.) Also Hal/Ollie, just to make it additionally dear to my heart. Written by [livejournal.com profile] perpet_fic, who I do not know but possibly should!

I myself wrote two fics for Yuletide. For my assignment, I wrote Two in Extremis for [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice, which is Carol 'n' Tony bodymerge action-adventure fic. Those of you who IM with me can remember my flip-out when the inevitable happened and, having unwisely offered "any" for Avengers/New Avengers, I got Carol Danvers and Tony Stark. I'm...mostly pleased with how it turned out, I guess, although I feel it could be better. Comics and comic fic aren't very good training for writing fight scenes--the latter because you don't *get* many, the former because it's all in pictures rather than words. It's an art I'd like to learn more of, though.

Thanks so much to anyone I was IMing in December for putting up for me, to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel and [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl for pressing [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice for details, and to [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel for last-minute beta.

And then there's the Yuletide treat I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel, Dinner With Bernie, which is just what it says on the tin: Bernie Rosenthal takes Steve Rogers [Captain America, in case anyone around here is still confused] out to dinner. I'm probably on the whole more pleased by how that one turned out, because it was less ambitious, even if I *did* write it on airplanes and in airports on Christmas eve and talk [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl into betaing late that evening. Bernie was fun to write!
Some of my online friends seem to really need nice things now. So since I *finally* got these things scanned last week (it's been nearly a year. It takes courage to use the work scanner!) I'm finally getting around to putting up the sketches I got, free and otherwise, at Wizard World Philadelphia last year.

Since it's been nearly a year, I've forgotten some names. Next time I do this, I'm going to take better notes; this was my first time getting sketches from people.

First off, stuff from the Marvel booth. I discovered, on the third day of the convention, that if you were prepared to wait in line, you could get free head sketches from all the Marvel artists there. Of any character you wanted!

So you can imagine what *I* spent my Sunday doing.

FALCON SKETCHES! )

And then there are the people who are not Falcon, drawn by artists not at the Marvel booth!

This is a totally cute Flash picture I bought, drawn by someone whose name I can't quite read and whose business card I have since lost. It stood out from most of the stuff in Artist's Alley by being brightly colored and non-grim:

Flash! )

And a few things from the folks at Cave Drawing Ink, who distinguished themselves (and got us to buy some things) by being young and eager and drawing us pictures:

Captain America and Hal Jordan )
3 stories that should be written, the "I spent a day with [livejournal.com profile] destroythemeek and read a bunch of DeMatthies and early Gruenwald Cap Issues" edition

Project inspired by [livejournal.com profile] jubilancy's post.

1. Sam Wilson's sexuality issues, circa the 70s and/or the comics-time not-actually-70s, in which he tries to figure out how the heck to maintain credibility in his community while coming out as not just a gay or bi man, but a black man in love with a white guy. With bonus Leila, and possibly Cap dealing with his own issues in re: not understanding the seventies and/or sexuality in general.

2. 80s fic in which Arnie Roth explains to Steve that, you know, maybe Steve is, in fact, into dudes, judging from his behavior in that particular time-period.

3. Any or all fic regarding Jack Monroe's friendship or conversations with Arnie Roth. Because the concept of Cap's gay childhood best friend and the temporally-displaced, not terribly PC or with it ex-Bucky of the Fifties is fascinating, if you are me.

And in other news from Cap 284, Nick Fury loves his Walrus. <333333333
I had a dream last night where ZOMG! My subconscious is inventing spoilers for Captain America! )

In other Falcon-related news! Y'all should go put in prompts for the Characters of Color Love Fest!

Which...I will probably go do, once I stop feeling horrifically self-indulgent for either (a) being All Sam Wilson, All the Time or (b) running around and suggesting all sorts of random people the poor multifandom organizers have never heard of, like Skyrocket and Josiah Power (hella hot and awesome but both from The Power Company which lasted, like, eighteen issues) and Amazing Man (clearly we need fic about the third-stringer who won Maxima's hand!).

Multifandom things make me self-conscious.

In completely NON Falcon-related news, I got a lovely postcard from [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory! Which was actually confusing for a minute 'cause it was under her real name and not fannish except in a YAY ITALY way, but, dude. YAY ITALY! Also, old maps = win. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory!

[livejournal.com profile] marvel_100 Challenge #12 – Threesome

Sam Wilson drifted awake, contented. )
I was struggling with my fourth kissing request, so I went and complained to [livejournal.com profile] sparklebutch on chat. He suggested:

[livejournal.com profile] sparklebutch: try to do something else, cleanse your palate before returning to kisses?
[livejournal.com profile] sparklebutch: do a similar thing with "first death"

So I wrote: Captain America's first death )

But it still wasn't a first kiss.

So he asked if I could write the same guy in high heels.

Apparently, yes. For brief periods. )

Now, off to see if I can make Falcon kiss Winter Soldier. Or vice versa.
OMG LOOK WHAT [livejournal.com profile] vonbrigthi drew me!

Captain America with KITTEN America, and facepalm!Falc and Redwing looking on.

It is seriously awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] vonbrigthi says, "Hee, see, in my head, Cap had this whole elaborate plan to partner up with an eagle to complement Redwing, but he got sidetracked on the way to the Wildlife Reserve by an abandoned sack of kittens, etc."

Which sounds *eminently* plausible to me. :D
TITLE: Just a Little Cold
AUTHOR: Caia
FANDOM/CONTINUITY: Captain America & Avengers, circa 1971-1972. Further notes here.
SUMMARY: A cold is going around. Cap, Falc, and most of the Avengers get it.
WARNINGS: Silver Age-style gen which may be offensive to French people.
NOTES: [livejournal.com profile] cereta posted about colds which inspired [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf to write fic, which, in turn, inspired me. It was intended to be pure fluff, but a supervillain plot came along for the ride.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] glossing for beta.

At long last!

Title: Like a Building Thunderhead.
Author: Caia
Fandom/Pairing: Marvel Comics, Captain America/Falcon.
Rating: Adult. There be sex.
Summary: In the middle of the Civil War crossover (about issue 1 or 2), Sam Wilson tries to take care of his friend. Sex (eventually) ensues.
Acknowedgements: Title prompt by [livejournal.com profile] devilc. Beta by [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil.

Here be fic. Rather a lot of it. )
Because some things should not, in fact, have high school AUs--[livejournal.com profile] mississippienne and I present Captain America: The High School AU!

In other news, see my new icon (subtitled: Where you = Helmut Zemo and did = kissed)! My text-adding skills suck, but I'm endlessly amused by it nonetheless.
I've been promising people for awhile that I'd post quotes from the tie-in novel CAPTAIN AMERICA: LIBERTY'S TORCH, by Tony Isabella and Bob Ingersoll, which I found on sale at the drugstore. Devin Greyson it ain't, but it does have its moments.
I haven't gotten very far with it, because it's mostly pretty bad and I've had many better things to read, but here are some choice quotes:

A bad romance novel, perhaps? )

All this and we're not even into chapter two! Watch this space for more exciting updates! ;)

And on a completely different note.

On spontaneous changes in gender, the cure thereof: )

It should be a meme.
This took forever to figure out how to write, and it turned out much longer than expected--too long for an LJ comment, in fact--so it gets its own post. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] plainsong_x for talking me through this and reading over it tonight, and also to anyone else I've talked to about this over the past almost-a-week.
