So I got 15 Steps Forward for Yuletide, which is a wonderful post-"Snowbirds Don't Fly" [the Roy on heroin plotline] fic that does a better job than about anything I've ever seen of accounting for the aftermath of that. Mostly from Ollie's POV; he's *trying*, the poor clueless dear ♥. (Notable things about Caia, for those who didn't know me very well in my full-on GL/GA phase: I love Ollie even when he's being stupid. Sometimes especially.) Also Hal/Ollie, just to make it additionally dear to my heart. Written by perpet_fic, who I do not know but possibly should!

I myself wrote two fics for Yuletide. For my assignment, I wrote Two in Extremis for imaginaryalice, which is Carol 'n' Tony bodymerge action-adventure fic. Those of you who IM with me can remember my flip-out when the inevitable happened and, having unwisely offered "any" for Avengers/New Avengers, I got Carol Danvers and Tony Stark. I'm...mostly pleased with how it turned out, I guess, although I feel it could be better. Comics and comic fic aren't very good training for writing fight scenes--the latter because you don't *get* many, the former because it's all in pictures rather than words. It's an art I'd like to learn more of, though.

And then there's the Yuletide treat I wrote for harmonyangel, Dinner With Bernie, which is just what it says on the tin: Bernie Rosenthal takes Steve Rogers [Captain America, in case anyone around here is still confused] out to dinner. I'm probably on the whole more pleased by how that one turned out, because it was less ambitious, even if I *did* write it on airplanes and in airports on Christmas eve and talk second_batgirl into betaing late that evening. Bernie was fun to write!

3 stories that should be written, the "I spent a day with destroythemeek and read a bunch of DeMatthies and early Gruenwald Cap Issues" edition

Project inspired by jubilancy's post.

1. Sam Wilson's sexuality issues, circa the 70s and/or the comics-time not-actually-70s, in which he tries to figure out how the heck to maintain credibility in his community while coming out as not just a gay or bi man, but a black man in love with a white guy. With bonus Leila, and possibly Cap dealing with his own issues in re: not understanding the seventies and/or sexuality in general.

2. 80s fic in which Arnie Roth explains to Steve that, you know, maybe Steve is, in fact, into dudes, judging from his behavior in that particular time-period.

3. Any or all fic regarding Jack Monroe's friendship or conversations with Arnie Roth. Because the concept of Cap's gay childhood best friend and the temporally-displaced, not terribly PC or with it ex-Bucky of the Fifties is fascinating, if you are me.

I was struggling with my fourth kissing request, so I went and complained to sparklebutch on chat. He suggested:

sparklebutch: try to do something else, cleanse your palate before returning to kisses?
sparklebutch: do a similar thing with "first death"

So I wrote: ( Captain America's first death )



But it still wasn't a first kiss.

So he asked if I could write the same guy in high heels.

( Apparently, yes. For brief periods. )


Now, off to see if I can make Falcon kiss Winter Soldier. Or vice versa.

In other news, see my new icon (subtitled: Where you = Helmut Zemo and did = kissed)! My text-adding skills suck, but I'm endlessly amused by it nonetheless.

This took forever to figure out how to write, and it turned out much longer than expected--too long for an LJ comment, in fact--so it gets its own post. Thanks to plainsong_x for talking me through this and reading over it tonight, and also to anyone else I've talked to about this over the past almost-a-week.
