Some of my online friends seem to really need nice things now. So since I *finally* got these things scanned last week (it's been nearly a year. It takes courage to use the work scanner!) I'm finally getting around to putting up the sketches I got, free and otherwise, at Wizard World Philadelphia last year.

Since it's been nearly a year, I've forgotten some names. Next time I do this, I'm going to take better notes; this was my first time getting sketches from people.

First off, stuff from the Marvel booth. I discovered, on the third day of the convention, that if you were prepared to wait in line, you could get free head sketches from all the Marvel artists there. Of any character you wanted!

So you can imagine what *I* spent my Sunday doing.

FALCON SKETCHES! )

And then there are the people who are not Falcon, drawn by artists not at the Marvel booth!

This is a totally cute Flash picture I bought, drawn by someone whose name I can't quite read and whose business card I have since lost. It stood out from most of the stuff in Artist's Alley by being brightly colored and non-grim:

And a few things from the folks at Cave Drawing Ink, who distinguished themselves (and got us to buy some things) by being young and eager and drawing us pictures:

3 stories that should be written, the "I spent a day with [livejournal.com profile] destroythemeek and read a bunch of DeMatthies and early Gruenwald Cap Issues" edition

Project inspired by [livejournal.com profile] jubilancy's post.

1. Sam Wilson's sexuality issues, circa the 70s and/or the comics-time not-actually-70s, in which he tries to figure out how the heck to maintain credibility in his community while coming out as not just a gay or bi man, but a black man in love with a white guy. With bonus Leila, and possibly Cap dealing with his own issues in re: not understanding the seventies and/or sexuality in general.

2. 80s fic in which Arnie Roth explains to Steve that, you know, maybe Steve is, in fact, into dudes, judging from his behavior in that particular time-period.

3. Any or all fic regarding Jack Monroe's friendship or conversations with Arnie Roth. Because the concept of Cap's gay childhood best friend and the temporally-displaced, not terribly PC or with it ex-Bucky of the Fifties is fascinating, if you are me.

And in other news from Cap 284, Nick Fury loves his Walrus. <333333333
I had a dream last night where ZOMG! My subconscious is inventing spoilers for Captain America! )

In other Falcon-related news! Y'all should go put in prompts for the Characters of Color Love Fest!

Which...I will probably go do, once I stop feeling horrifically self-indulgent for either (a) being All Sam Wilson, All the Time or (b) running around and suggesting all sorts of random people the poor multifandom organizers have never heard of, like Skyrocket and Josiah Power (hella hot and awesome but both from The Power Company which lasted, like, eighteen issues) and Amazing Man (clearly we need fic about the third-stringer who won Maxima's hand!).

Multifandom things make me self-conscious.

In completely NON Falcon-related news, I got a lovely postcard from [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory! Which was actually confusing for a minute 'cause it was under her real name and not fannish except in a YAY ITALY way, but, dude. YAY ITALY! Also, old maps = win. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory!

TITLE: Just a Little Cold
AUTHOR: Caia
FANDOM/CONTINUITY: Captain America & Avengers, circa 1971-1972. Further notes here.
SUMMARY: A cold is going around. Cap, Falc, and most of the Avengers get it.
WARNINGS: Silver Age-style gen which may be offensive to French people.
NOTES: [livejournal.com profile] cereta posted about colds which inspired [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf to write fic, which, in turn, inspired me. It was intended to be pure fluff, but a supervillain plot came along for the ride.

Here be fic. Rather a lot of it. )
This took forever to figure out how to write, and it turned out much longer than expected--too long for an LJ comment, in fact--so it gets its own post. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] plainsong_x for talking me through this and reading over it tonight, and also to anyone else I've talked to about this over the past almost-a-week.

Fic(let)! )
I'm writing the request ficlets rather more slowly than last time, but I am writing them!

So far we have:

Namor/Human Torch (Jim Hammond version) for Mizzmarvel )

Animal Man, for Ratcreature )

Falcon/Spider-Man, for TB )
So I went to Wizard World Philly with [livejournal.com profile] littledarkvoice last Sunday. There was fun stuff, like seeing (and fangirling) Amanda Conner and getting her to sign my copy of JSA CLASSIFIED #1. And seeing previews and things (the next Manhunter, btw? WOW).

Mostly, though, there were lots of cheap comics. Because my greatest weekness is 25-cent bins, closely followed by 50-cent bins. (And then there were dollar bins, and a full set of GL: MOSAIC (OMG SQUEE!) and the old Ollie action figure reasonably priced, and....so forth!)

Having (somehow!) gotten this all back, I've been reading through, slowly, in alphabetical order. I'm on C.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 202, to be precise--I got a lot of old Cap issues.

Comments so far:

A. BIZARRO #3 completed my set of the series, and is really adorable--it's a series about a Bizarro-duplicate of a "regular guy" who wants to be a singer, and his adventures. This particular issue took place in Apocalips, which was entertaining as always (although not to be taken terribly seriously!).

AMALGAM continues to be excellent, excellent, crack. I was especially fond of CHALLENGERS OF THE FANTASTIC, despite (and perhaps because of) my limited knowledge of both components.

CAMELOT 3000 I bought in large part because Sir Tristan gets reincarnated as a woman, and there is transexual and lesbian loveliness! although in the actual series, Tristan's whining about being a woman gets tiresome after awhile. [livejournal.com profile] kerithwyn wrote excellent fic about them, though. And then there's my fondness for Baxter paper. Mmmmm. The series as a whole, though, is a lot of fun--King Arthur fighting aliens is TOTALLY better than it sounds.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: I got a bunch of old Cap/Falc issues for the sheer fondness (along with quite a bit of Waid v3 stuff, which I'll get to later--although I read THIS one already with [livejournal.com profile] littledarkvoice--the interior, sadly, is not nearly as awesome--for scary values of awesome--as the cover).

Things that are still awesome: Falcon's first meeting with Nick Fury, from Cap v1 #135. (Sorry the bottom of the first page got chopped off--Cap is saying "That's it. Now you've got it." and Falc is saying "Okay, okay, but it'll never replace Coney Island.") *wants a threesome*

And from 202, which is what inspired me to go post, Texas Jack Muldoon's dialogue to Cap, "Ah, s'pose yore this Falcon's saddle buddy and yore as consarned an' mystified as I am!" Saddle buddy indeed. :D :D :D
"Captain America's been gone two hours already! Just how long does it take to recruit a new Avenger, anyway?"
"As long as it takes, sir."
"Hmmm, very sagacious, Jarvis."
"I only meant that the Avengers do things in their own way, Mr. Gyrich, and in their own time. At least...they used to."
--Peter Henry Gyrich, the government liason person, and Jarvis the butler, waiting for Cap and Falc after the scene in the previous post.

...I think those two hours NEED FIC. Including the BED in the previous scene.

*goes to look up Avengers v1 182 on the off-chance there was a Rational Explanation for the delay*

(Oh, and later issues in that general run, as of 190ish? Falc doesn't do a whole lot, other than growl mentally and otherwise on occasion about his token status, but Hawkeye is HELLA jealous about being replaced by Falc on the team. Which, um, is mostly just a team thing, but given Hawkeye's own special relationship to Cap on occasion, well. My mind goes places.)
Because sometimes "the subtext has become text!" and "I can't believe they went there!" have nothing especially to do with the gay.

Although there's that, here, too.

The Avengers need more minorities! )
