Yuletide!

Jan. 4th, 2009 11:24 am
So I got 15 Steps Forward for Yuletide, which is a wonderful post-"Snowbirds Don't Fly" [the Roy on heroin plotline] fic that does a better job than about anything I've ever seen of accounting for the aftermath of that. Mostly from Ollie's POV; he's *trying*, the poor clueless dear ♥. (Notable things about Caia, for those who didn't know me very well in my full-on GL/GA phase: I love Ollie even when he's being stupid. Sometimes especially.) Also Hal/Ollie, just to make it additionally dear to my heart. Written by [livejournal.com profile] perpet_fic, who I do not know but possibly should!

I myself wrote two fics for Yuletide. For my assignment, I wrote Two in Extremis for [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice, which is Carol 'n' Tony bodymerge action-adventure fic. Those of you who IM with me can remember my flip-out when the inevitable happened and, having unwisely offered "any" for Avengers/New Avengers, I got Carol Danvers and Tony Stark. I'm...mostly pleased with how it turned out, I guess, although I feel it could be better. Comics and comic fic aren't very good training for writing fight scenes--the latter because you don't *get* many, the former because it's all in pictures rather than words. It's an art I'd like to learn more of, though.

Thanks so much to anyone I was IMing in December for putting up for me, to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel and [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl for pressing [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice for details, and to [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel for last-minute beta.

And then there's the Yuletide treat I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel, Dinner With Bernie, which is just what it says on the tin: Bernie Rosenthal takes Steve Rogers [Captain America, in case anyone around here is still confused] out to dinner. I'm probably on the whole more pleased by how that one turned out, because it was less ambitious, even if I *did* write it on airplanes and in airports on Christmas eve and talk [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl into betaing late that evening. Bernie was fun to write!
Some of my online friends seem to really need nice things now. So since I *finally* got these things scanned last week (it's been nearly a year. It takes courage to use the work scanner!) I'm finally getting around to putting up the sketches I got, free and otherwise, at Wizard World Philadelphia last year.

Since it's been nearly a year, I've forgotten some names. Next time I do this, I'm going to take better notes; this was my first time getting sketches from people.

First off, stuff from the Marvel booth. I discovered, on the third day of the convention, that if you were prepared to wait in line, you could get free head sketches from all the Marvel artists there. Of any character you wanted!

So you can imagine what *I* spent my Sunday doing.

FALCON SKETCHES! )

And then there are the people who are not Falcon, drawn by artists not at the Marvel booth!

This is a totally cute Flash picture I bought, drawn by someone whose name I can't quite read and whose business card I have since lost. It stood out from most of the stuff in Artist's Alley by being brightly colored and non-grim:

And a few things from the folks at Cave Drawing Ink, who distinguished themselves (and got us to buy some things) by being young and eager and drawing us pictures:

Captain America and Hal Jordan )

Vid rec!

OMG PEOPLE.

[livejournal.com profile] cephiedvariable made a Hal Jordan vid, covering his time as Parallax and Spectre. Redemption.

(This is an id-rec for me; it might or might not be technically very good, and the Sarah McLaughlin-allergic should perhaps give it a pass, but it's awesome to me that it *exists*, and it totally brought tears to my eyes, so I am COMPELLED to tell anyone with a fondness for post-Emerald Twilight pre-Rebirth Hal to GO SEE IT NOW.)
I'm not generally much for memes and quizzes and things, but...

Hal )

Reposted and backdated for cataloguing purposes!

Prompt: an average night (post-crime-fighting) with Hal and Barry when Barry *wasn't* late for a date with Iris.

Barry sat back and listened )
Especially for LC, and anyone else to whom I've squeed about this.

No, Hal DOESN'T have any clue about appropriate workplace behavior. Why do you ask? )

In their defense, it was 1959. *g*

Pictures!

May. 22nd, 2005 11:30 am
The semester is over, and for the last week, I've been only partially employed, reading *lots* of comics, and not feeling very articulate. I have, however, been (metaphorically) clipping funny, cracky, or slashy things from some of the stuff I've been reading, and since a lot of that has been Flash v1, there's been...quite a bit. Some of it got posted to [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily; here are many many more.

From the Green Lantern backups:

Flash v1 238: Hal gets all the cute aliens!. One of these is probably later to be known as Itty, and if anyone with slightly better image skills than me could make me an icon of this, I'd be very grateful and possibly write stuff.

Flash v1 240: Itty tags along. Having saved the day, Itty gets its name!

Flash v1 243: Hal devolves! More cave Hal! Yet more! Hal evolves!

Flash v1 246: Hal goes a little bit nuts. Plus an early glimpse of the Floronic Man.

From the feature stories, with Flash himelf:

Flash v1 239: The Piper makes some Central City police dance a jig.

Flash v1 252: Barry carries off Ralph Dibny--right under Sue's nose!

Flash v1 255: In case anyone was wondering, Sam Scudder (Mirror Master) wears boxers under his costume.

Flash v1 259: Barry Allen makes like a genie in a ring and a stripper through town.

Flash v1 265: Is he Flash, Captain Boomerang, or in fact, Plastic Man? (Further down on the page, Barry says "I'll be doggoned!" Aww, Barry.)
So--I was intending to have my [livejournal.com profile] comica_obscura fic *done* by now. And it's more or less plotted out already, as [livejournal.com profile] plainsong_x can attest, being as I jumped her in the middle of the night round about Thursday nights ago and *told* it too her.

Unfortunately, telling Jori all about it does not make a fic finished, and I've been jumped by one bunny/obsession after another ever since.

First, there was classic Firestorm, set off by, off all things, the Superfriends, which reminded me that Firestorm originally? Involved a bodysharing pair of high school student/professor. And made it look much more...pervy than Ronnie and Prof. Stein ever did in the comics. Especially when you've spent way too much time talking to [livejournal.com profile] evadne_ about the Blue Beetles and various Hawk 'n' Dove AUs.

Any rate. I managed to more or less shake that one off by late Saturday night. More or less. At which point (after having given [livejournal.com profile] zeelee_penguin a--brief--explanation of Green Lantern continuity from, oh, the 1960s or 70s through Mosaic, and diverse other distractions) I crawled into bed around 2:30 AM and was immediately ambushed by a Hal/John (or perhaps Hal-John) plot bunny at full force. Which (in an attempt at productivity, however counterproductive) I spent another hour or so starting writing the beginning of.

And then yesterday, after spending most of the day traveling and coming out tired, achy, and generally HATING THE WORLD, I went to bed much earlier and promptly started contemplating, of all things, Al Rothstein [Nuklon, Adam-Smasher] and Todd Rice [Obsidian] swearing brotherhood and settling down as ex-heroes/ex-villains together. (Do any of you other than [livejournal.com profile] greenygal *care* about these two?! Or have any desire to see such a thing?) It was cute, and tragic, and occasionally hot if they actually got to the sex, and actually *didn't* result in me getting up and trying to write it, partly because it occurred to me I'd have to go reread a lot of JSA to try to fit in what happens there with the Al and Todd I know from Infinity, Inc. and JLA.

...and just now I'm reading 70s Freedom Fighters, if only to see Black Condor walk around as if what he (wasn't) wearing was perfectly normal (this is a cover from the 40s, but same general costume). And am therefore discovering a *lot* of interesting stuff that is long-since out of continuity, like the Freedom Fighters having migrated to New York after their JLA xover special. Oh dear.

Disclaimers: None of these people belong to me, and boy are they relieved to hear that. There are somewhat less relieved to hear that they do, in fact, belong to DC comics.

Summary: Two Flashes and two GLs go camping. Sex pollen ensues.

Spoilers/continuity: Set just after, and contains spoilers for, #3 of the Brave and Bold miniseries (now available as a trade paperback!).

Rating: PG-13/R

Acknowledgement: Thanks very much to [livejournal.com profile] greenygal for the beta. If these people are in character, it's to her credit. Any errors are entirely mine.
