Well, [livejournal.com profile] greenygal mentioned to me the other night the possibility of a pairing generator that would give random pairings of people in the Lantern, Flash, and Arrow families.

So, I wake up this morning, steal some coding, and this was the result. Advice on further inclusions, exclusions, etc. is greatly appreciated.

As is fic based on any of the pairings so created, although many--perhaps most--of these pairings should *really, really* be interpreted as gen.

Very very.

So how does a girl go about stealing this coding?

You just go to the website--probably the LOM one, rather than mine, since you won't have to remove the Geocities stuff--save it to your disk, open it in a text editor and screw around with it.

Look forward to the Batfamily version!

My first try got me "John Stewart/Wally West". I can live with that, especially in the toons. My second was "The Old Timer/Eobard Thawne". So who's The Old Timer? And my third was "Gorilla Grodd/Joan Garrick" which makes me think "really disturbing non-con scenario."

From: [identity profile] caiusmajor.livejournal.com
The Old Timer was the Guardian who accompanied Hal and Ollie on the first part of their famous road trip.

Post-Crisis, the rest of the Guardians left him behind to look after things while they went off with the Zamarons to make babies. He went mad with lonliness (he'd been separated from the Guardians' mental link for the first time in his life), summoned all the places he'd ever seen to form the Mosaic, ultimately got killed but lived on as one of the voices in John Stewart's mind.

That's the brief version :).

*jaw drops* This is so cool! You utterly rock.

Comments:

Without seeing the character list it's hard to tell what's already there, but I'd suggest Shado and Marianne if you don't have them already. Also, there are dozens of Flash supporting characters. (GL too, of course, especially if you bring in all the random Corps members, but I have a much longer acquaintance with Flash.) I am torn between suggesting every last one of them and being aware that most of the people using this are really not gonna know who Mason Trollbridge is. Must...restrain...Flash geekiness! *g* I think Jenni Ognats--Barry's granddaughter, of the 30th-century Legion of Superheroes--should be on the list, though.

(Oh, and minor spelling nitpick: it's "Kari Limbo" and "Johnny Chambers.")

And my first hit was for Roy Harper/Molly Scott. Hmm. And there's an easy link to get to that one, too... (As a gen piece. Honest.)

I really love this.

Thanks!

You can get the character list by going to the page and chosing "page source" from the "view" menu or some similar place.

I wasn't quite sure where to draw the line on minor characters myself, although I can't *believe* I forgot Shado and Marianne--who've been added--and I don't know who Mason Trollbridge is, either--who hasn't been, though I do admit I know next to nothing about the Flash family. I took your word for it on Jenni Ognats, though. Also corrected the spelling, thanks.

Also, do you know Mia's last name? I feel bad leaving her without one.

I look forward to the Roy/Molly gen piece, as well :).

Gotcha. *skimming list* Hey, there could be Ganthet/Old-Timer. Guardian slash! (Yes, I can see everybody out there shrieking and flinging themselves under random pieces of furniture...)

Supporting characters are still kind of a murky question. But I think Mary West (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/marywest.html), Magenta (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/magenta.html), and Trickster I (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/trickster.html) all have lots of potential for this list...

Also, do you know Mia's last name? I feel bad leaving her without one.

The fansite says it's Dearden. No wonder we don't hear it much. (Aw, and apparently Chip has no last name at all. *ponders Chip/Marianne*)

*retrying* Gorilla Grodd/Dinah Drake Lance. Worlds of gen. Also possibly actual plot. This thing is dangerous...

*g* I think there *should* be Guardian slash. I'm not volunteering to write it, but I think it should exist. Not sure about these *particular* two Guardians--they're just the only two whose names I can come up with offhand...

But I think Mary West, Magenta, and Trickster I all have lots of potential for this list...

Added. Also bookmarked that Flash page and added a few other people, mostly GL related.

The fansite says it's Dearden.

Thank you. I wasn't sure where on the site to look...

(Aw, and apparently Chip has no last name at all.

He has a first name, though :). But if I listed him as "Francis" even *fewer* people would know who I meant...

*ponders Chip/Marianne*)

That would be *interesting*. They do have slightly parallel relationships to Hal and Ollie. I'm not sure how one would manage to introduce them, though, or what else they would have to talk about.

This thing is dangerous...

Why, thank you :).

There's also an Englehart character called--ahem--Herupa Hando Hu. Died in Millennium, apparently. The problem with Guardian slash is that, Old-Timer possibly excluded, they all have exactly the same personality...

Added.

Cool. Oh, and I think Connor's ditzy mother, Moonday Hawke, is another candidate. Partly because I think there should be as many moms on here as possible (they need love too :) and partly because the idea of Dinah/Moonday has me cackling hysterically. (You will meet her in #105. It will shortly become obvious why going off to a monastery for five years seemed like such a good idea to Connor.)

Also bookmarked that Flash page

I thought it might come in handy, yeah. Hmm. Wonder if that and the GL Corps site could be listed on the generator page, so people who don't recognize a name could go look if they were so inclined? Unfortunately the GA site, wonderfully comprehensive as it otherwise is, really doesn't have character bios...

I wasn't sure where on the site to look...

Yeah, see above about the bios. :( I just skimmed through the reviews until I hit a name.

But if I listed him as "Francis" even *fewer* people would know who I meant...

Although they'd be less likely to confuse him with Ch'p. ;) Okay, okay, anybody who knows who Ch'p is probably also knows who Chip is, I just think it's funny.

I'm not sure how one would manage to introduce them, though, or what else they would have to talk about.

Well, as we don't know where either of them is at present there'd be no problem with them bumping into each other on the street. I admit that they probably would not be wearing signs saying "I am a rejected worshipper of Green Lantern/Green Arrow, but the thought of them getting together to talk about it is so entertaining I'm tempted to ignore that... (For parity, I suppose they should be joined by Magenta or Christina (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/christina.html), but then you'd have problems with the going violently insane and trying to kill them...)

There's also an Englehart character called--ahem--Herupa Hando Hu.

Has been added, if only for the *name*! Actually, the Secret Origin story tells us that he can be distinguished by being the youngest (or at least *one* of the youngest) Guardian, by being raised by *Krona*, and (unfortunately for the sake of Guardianslash) by having a LTR of sorts with a Zamaron that goes way back.

Considered including her (Nadia Safir) but she may be just too obscure...

Cool. Oh, and I think Connor's ditzy mother, Moonday Hawke, is another candidate.

Added. Along with Nathan Hawke, because I think the list *also* needs more grandfathers, and because I liked him in 108. And perhaps primarily because the GL and Flash families outnumber the Lanterns.

In the process, the generator attempted to hook up Linda and Eddie.

And the first person it came up with for Herupa was *Guy Gardner*, and for Nathan Hawke? Arisia.:)

(You will meet her in #105. It will shortly become obvious why going off to a monastery for five years seemed like such a good idea to Connor.)

I look forward to it. I've had a few inklings about Moonday already...

Wonder if that and the GL Corps site could be listed on the generator page, so people who don't recognize a name could go look if they were so inclined?

A *wonderful* idea.

Okay, okay, anybody who knows who Ch'p is probably also knows who Chip is, I just think it's funny.

So did I. There's a reason they're listed next to each other in the source code...:)

I admit that they probably would not be wearing signs saying "I am a rejected worshipper of Green Lantern/Green Arrow, but the thought of them getting together to talk about it is so entertaining I'm tempted to ignore that...

True...I dunno, they sorta exist in separate worlds to me.

(For parity, I suppose they should be joined by Magenta or Christina, but then you'd have problems with the going violently insane and trying to kill them...)

*snort* Well, maybe you could give Chip and Marianne powers and they could have a "going violently insane and trying to kill people" party.

The Oldtimer/Mia

Er..hmm. Being dead presents difficulties. Maybe back when he was alive? Most of the Guardians seem to have explored other planets at some point. Maybe Mia was in one of those Mosaic cities that got kidnapped to Oa? All those people got evacuated by the Darkstars, supposedly. Not sure how much of her background they've revealed.

Date: 2004-05-10 06:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] caiusmajor.livejournal.com
...as far as I know, we just know that Mia was a child prostitute, and they do their best to make us forget even *that*.

She'd be pretty young if the Old Timer is alive; she was about, what, 15? 16? when Ollie took her in, which was about five years after Mosaic according to the Unauthorized Chronology of the DCU (http://dcu.smartmemes.com/index.html). Less than that, doubtless, in official time, though, and I don't think we *know* when she started out as a prostitute...

Mosaic would be a fairly good time for fic about a child!Mia, although she would have had to have been somewhere *other* than Star City at the time and there'd have to be an explanation for why she hasn't mentioned being there to Ollie by now. Also, I'm not sure how much time opportunity would have been the creation of the Mosaic and the death of the Old Timer for interaction--although she could also have been in one of those cities when the Old Timer was traveling around with Ollie and Hal (which is certainly implied in Mosaic to be the only time he was on Earth) and have encountered him as an even younger child...

Alternately, a lot of the Old Timer's personality was absorbed into John Stewart. I'm not sure how much of it retains for how long, but there'd be a lot more opportunity for her to meet John, and he could access that personality for some reason while she was there...

.....then, of course, there's always resurrection. Death isn't all that permenent in the DCU :).

Or Elseworlds.

Remember the genfic disclaimer! Actually, I think those two could be *fun* together in a genfic; Kilowog was the drill sergeant of the GL corps, while Bart is...well, Bart :).

(Of course, Kilowog's also been *dead*, I think, the entire time Bart's been alive. But there are any number of ways of fixing *that*.)

But then I refreshed and got Hal/Ollie. So it doesn't always lead to badness. Just most of the time.

*g* I think you put Jenni on a 30th century spaceship and have her encounter the planet that was once a GL...I don't *think* Mogo was actually *destroyed* in all the GL corps chaos of late.

I miss Mogo too:(.

Though, this thing does really seem to be fond of Flash/GL pairings.

Probably because there are more Flashes and GLs than Arrows. Although the thing has some odd runs. I was trying it awhile back, and it had an inexplicable fondness for Katman Tui and Dinah Drake Lance. Not necessarily in combination.

Hmmmm, maybe it's time to read those inherited Flash comics.
