It does make him look a bit less Liefeldian? At least in the small versions--I didn't quite dare click to look more closely, honestly. It's the Hawk and Dove approach to Liefeld--if you ink/cover/paint over him enthusiastically enough, maybe it'll look okay!
It can't get worse in any case, and I say that as someone who generally dislikes the "painted" style of comics, because I tend to find inked lineart more expressive and dynamic, precisely why I don't like Alex Ross much.
Yeah, there's an explanation for that--way down in the interview I linked.
RL: The digital paintings over my layouts and pencils are amazing. The work in collaboration with the digital artists whether it's Mike Capprotti or Emily Warren or Matt Yackey has just exceeded my expectations. I wanted to present the work in a different form than what I've done before and so far the reaction has been tremendously positive from everyone.
Liefeld paid someone to paint and/or Photoshop the hell out of his drawings so they'd look halfway decent. (This is a line of work you should get into, Karen!)
